Lower Dolpo Trek – Walking journey towards Nepal’s deepest lake
Nepal is full of mountains and hills. Therefore, the country is famous for the hill walking or also called as the trekking. Everest, Annapurna, Langtang, and Manaslu are the major trekking regions of Nepal. However, lots of people across the globe are exploring the remote places of Nepal. No wonder the off the beaten trekking trails are slowly getting crowded. Lower Dolpo Trek in Nepal is the shortened version of Upper Dolpo Shey Gompa Trek.
The journey is similar to Upper Dolpo. The only difference is that the trekkers reach only up to Phoksundo Lake. This is the deepest lake in Nepal. It is shorter and relatively comfortable than the Full Dolpo trekking. Trekkers will get the chance to witness Nepal’s all geographical belts (flatland/terai, hilly & Himalayan).
Flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj is the first course of action. Nepalgunj is the industrial city on Nepal – India border located in the Terai belt of Nepal. Trekkers then again take a flight to Juphal. There is no direct flight to Juphal from Kathmandu. In doing so, trekkers will experience the Terai and hills at once.
Trekkers start their journey through various villages like Tarakot, Luna, and Nawarpani before reaching the Do Tarap Village. In this village we will take the acclimatization break. It is highly necessary as trekkers will start to reach the no vegetation higher Himalayan belts of Nepal. The crossing of the Numa La Pass and Baga La Pass are the two arduous tasks on this walking journey.
Even if the trek is tiring the mountains and surroundings help trekkers to get relieved from the tiredness. Heed the instructions of the guide as well because the trail is relatively new and less walked. You might get lost in the wilderness too. From Ringmo trekkers hike towards the lake. This is indeed the most picturesque day of the journey. Trekkers then return back to Juphal via Shyanta for the flight back to Kathmandu.
