Being one of the longest and challenging treks in the Everest region, Jiri Everest Base Camp is a journey to the mythical and mystical land of the Himalayas. This trek follows the same route used by the first climbers (Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay) to Everest. Due to the road facility, you can get a bus to go further from Jiri to Shivalaya where the trek begins. Mostly, Porters and pack animals used this trekking route and fewer trekkers come here than in Lukla to Base Camp Trek.
Jiri Everest Base Camp trek starts at an altitude of 1800m and crosses many ridges. The trail goes down to the rivers at around 1500m and ascends over 3000m. In the first week, rest and acclimatization days are taken in two places, one in Junbesi (2680m) and another in Namche Bazaar (3440m).
In the beginning phase of the trek, you will pass through forests, terraced farmlands, and classic middle-hill countryside. You will get enough time to acclimatize while experiencing the customs, culture, and lifestyle of Hindu and Buddhist communities.
As you go beyond Namche, the trail continues to rise and the temperature drops as you enter deeper into the mountains. Beyond Tengboche, due to the large monastery, and rhododendrons the village becomes smaller and the trek becomes tougher but more existing.
After the final acclimatization day at Dingboche, a slow walk takes to Lobuche, Gorak Shep, and finally Base Camp. The main highlight of the Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek is the trek to Kala Patthar, which offers breathtaking views of skied mountains such as Everest, Pumori, Nuptse, and Lhotse.
While returning retrace the same up-route route to Namche and from there a day's walk to Lukla for the flight back to Kathmandu.
